Welcome to the new Editor-in-Chief - Dr. Guy Simoneau!

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Guy Gilles Simoneau, PT, Ph.D., FAPTA, has joined the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy (BJPT) as one of the Editors-in-Chief, beginning in July/2019. He is internationally recognized due to the enormous contribution he has made to the field of orthopedic and sports rehabilitation while serving the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT) as the Editor-in-Chief for more than 15 years.

Dr. Simoneau received his B.S. in physical therapy from the University of Montreal (1982), his M.S. in physical education/sports medicine from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1984), and his Ph.D. in exercise and sport science/locomotion studies from the Pennsylvania State University (1992). He has been a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy at Marquette University since 1992, Professor since 2004. His primary area of teaching is orthopedic and sports physical therapy. He has published several research articles and book chapters on topics related to orthopedic/sports physical therapy and biomechanics. Dr. Simoneau has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Arthritis Foundation, and the Foundation for Physical Therapy, among others.

His teaching, service, and research efforts have been recognized through several national awards from the American Physical Therapy Association. These include the 2017 Ron Peyton award from the Sports section, the 2016 Paris Distinguished Service Award from the Orthopaedic Section, the 2010 Lucy Blair Service Award, the 2004 Chattanooga Research Award, the 2003 Baethke/Carlin Teaching Award, the 2000 Award for Excellence in Teaching of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from the Orthopaedic Section, and the 1997 Education Award from the Sports Section. He was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association in 2016. In addition, Dr. Simoneau received the Teacher of the Year Award at Marquette University in 2001.

Dr. Simoneau has lectured extensively around the world on orthopedic/sports physical therapy practice and various aspects of the research/publication process. In 2014, he completed a 5-month Fulbright experience at the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences in Dhulikhel, Nepal. Dr. Simoneau was the Editor-in-Chief of the JOSPT from 2002 to 2015 and was Interim Editor-in-Chief from 2018 to July 2019. Surely, Dr. Simoneau is a very talented and visionary person.

On behalf of the all editorial members we welcome Dr. Simoneau and look forward to many years of close collaboration with him. We are confident that his skills and expertise will help the BJPT to reach higher quality standards.

Welcome Dr Rafael Zambelli!

We want to take this opportunity to thank the outstanding work of Dr. Leonardo Costa during the period (2015 – 2019) that he served as Editor-in-Chief for the Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy (BJPT).

Dr. Costa brought new advances to BJPT and was essential for its growth in recent years. During this period, he voluntarily devoted countless hours of work to the journal, and his competence and dedication drove the BJPT to a new level.

Similarly, we want to welcome and thank Dr. Rafael Zambelli for accepting the invitation to join the Editors-in-Chief of the Journal and making himself available to continue the work of several researchers who have built this patrimony of the Brazilian Physical Therapy that is the BJPT.  

We are sure that the flame carried by those who have contributed to the BJPT's growth will again be in good hands.


Thanks to Dr. David Magee

Dr David Magee is a name easily recognized by most physical therapists around the world. During his career as a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta, he has devoted most of his time to his teaching, research and supervision of graduate students.

Dr Magee has made a vast contribution to the physical therapy community, particularly in the field of musculoskeletal and sports, through highly influential textbooks and scientific papers as well as training courses in Canada and internationally.

In addition to all this, we as the current editors and also the past editors from the Brazilian Journal of Physical Therapy (BJPT) had the privilege to work side-by-side with him as the International Editor from 2011 to June/2019. Dr Magee kindly donated his time to help BJPT reach higher standards and publish high quality papers.

On behalf of all editorial board members, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr David Magee for all his voluntary contribution for the past 9 consecutive years as the BJPT's International Editor.
